One of the most magical things about being an Amazon Prime member is the free two-day shipping that is included with your membership. There are millions of Prime eligible items for purchase on the site, so Christmas shopping is a breeze. However, there are some situations when even Amazon cannot live up to its lofty promises and packages arrive late. If it was a Prime item and you are a member, there are actions you can take to get some recompense for having to wait for your items.
Item Was Ordered but Never Shipped
Per Google, this is a common occurrence. Customers place an order on Amazon but days, weeks, and sometimes even months later they find that it never shipped. The good news is that you are not charged for that item until it does ship, and if it has not, you can still cancel it by going into your orders under your account. The ability to cancel problem items like this is why people like ordering through Amazon. They have protections in place meant to cover the consumer, which is refreshing.
An Item Is Listed as Delivered, but Never Arrived
This is an incredibly frustrating incident. There are several things you should check if this happens to you:
- Look for notice of attempted delivery
- Check with your neighbors, it may have been delivered there by mistake
- Look in the mailbox, if the package is small enough, it may have landed there
- Ensure the shipping address you provided was correct
- Check around your porch and home to see if it got moved somehow
- Wait 36 hours, as sometimes packages can show delivered while they are still in transit.
If 36 hours have come and gone and there is still no sign of your package, it is time to get in contact directly with Amazon’s customer support team. You can do that by following this path: Help > Browse Help Topics > Need More Help > Contact Us. On this page you should see all your recent orders. Click on the order in question and scroll down the page. There you can find a drop-down menu labeled “select an issue.” From there you should choose “Where’s my stuff?” and in the subcategory choose, “Tracking shows delivered but item not received.” From there you have the choice to connect with Amazon via telephone, email, or live chat. They investigate and ultimately issue you a refund to cover the loss of your purchase.
Recourse for Prime Members
The above process also stands for Prime members missing a package, but you get some added benefits with your membership that non-members do not. If you order a Prime eligible item and it is delivered outside of the guaranteed time frame, Amazon gives you one month of Amazon Prime, which is usually added on to the end of that year’s membership. Other options for this situation include account credits, discount vouchers, and other perks. There is not much consistency with these situations, as it rather seems to depend on who you speak to on any given day.
How to Avoid Fake Sellers
Since Amazon is so staggeringly huge, it is hard for them to police every merchant that sells goods on their site. The way these crooks get your money is quite genius, really. A person opens a new Amazon seller account and lists popular items for sale on their page. In order to really sweeten the deal, they list their items for less money than other merchants are selling them for. When they receive your order, this crook immediately classifies your item as en route to the carrier, immediately releasing your funds to them. They typically list a delivery date of four weeks so the thief can beat Amazon’s two-week payment cycle and disappear without a trace before anyone even begins to complain and Amazon can close the account.
While this is admittedly a clever way to defraud people, it is easy for the savvy consumer to avoid. The best thing you can do to avoid being a victim of this scheme is to read the feedback score closely. You can find their score by clicking on their name in the upper right-hand corner of the page, which takes you to their seller profile. On this profile page you can see a merchant’s lifetime seller feedback rating, and their more recent scores over the last three, six, and 12-month period. Before purchasing anything at all on Amazon, make sure you know where it is coming from. If they are a third-party merchant, the customer testimonials are a great way to gauge what you can expect when working with them.
Amazon Prime members and the Misers List have a lot of perks when it comes to online shopping, but the diligent shopper always comes out ahead by doing a bit of research before pulling the final trigger.
